I switched to diet soda's a few years ago during my weight loss days. I stuck with them to help keep the weight off. Then one day while reading the can I realized that I didn't know what any of the ingredients were, aside from water. I thought to myself "wow...that can't be good". I then looked at a can of regular soda, and most of the ingredients seemed to be more "natural". I know high fructose isn't the best for you, but from what I can tell if you only have a can a day, and don't spend all your time on the couch, you should be fine.
I have since cut back even further and gone the route of Charles, kind of. I buy more of the natural soda's now. They use cane sugar. I still buy normal soda, but the two together cuts back the amount of "junk" going in probably even more so than switching to diet only. I also find that with a regular soda I am satisfied more often after just one. With diet, I was needing to drink many cans just to be satisfied. They just don't kill a thirst at all.
I also prefer the flavor of REAL soda. I'm a soda junkie, so I refuse to cut it out, but I am more than happy to run with moderation.
Oh, and my beer is all natural also.
Though I don't drink macro's in the US. I'm mostly an import guy, with some micros. Though I do have to admit I am very impressed by Michelob's fancy beer box with their Porter, Pale, Belgian Wheat, and Oktoberfest. They do a respectable job for a macro.
