The woman who played Mrs. Kintner is indeed a local Martha's Vineyard resident who was cast in the film.

Her lack of tears always came off to me not as bad acting, but as shock, anger, and disbelief that her son is dead. After she slaps Brody and starts to walk away, she looks as if she's in a daze, relying on her father to help her walk.

Speaking of her father, I always thought it was a sad touch that prior to the slapping scene, Mrs. Kintner is shown walking out of a building (the funeral home?). She steps outside, looks lost and confused, and calls "Daddy?" to her elderly father, who has to help her down the stairs.

I thought she was great in that role.

Speaking of Kintner, here is an AMAZING rare shot of the original Alex Kintner raft scene. This is from my pal Ed's website, Jaws Movie Archives.com. There is actual footage of this long lost and seldom heard of scene (I never knew they filmed this!) in the not-yet-released documentary The Shark Is Still Working". In fact, you can see a snippet of this scene in the new trailer for the TSISW. There are also more stills of this scene at Ed's cool site.

In any case, check THIS out:
