The first time my sister and I saw Jaws in 1975, my sister pointed out that "Mrs. Kitner" was trying mightily to conjure up some tears during her confrontation with Brody and seemed unable to do so. Now, everytime I watch that scene, I can't help but notice that despite the scrunched up face and choked voice, there's not one tear in her eye. I seem to recall somewhere that she wasn't an actress at all, but a local woman Spielberg had chosen for her particular "look."

Yes, I've always felt the same way. This is the one bad moment in the entire film for me. The woman is awful.
