What bugs me just a bit about Hooper surviving at the end is that we KNOW he's going to make it because we see him swim off and hide behind a rock. I thought it would have been much more dramatic if Brody and Quint pulled up that bashed shark cage in the middle of Hooper's fight - maybe just show him slightly swimming out of the cage - and the audience figures he's had it, but then are relieved to see he survived. The audiences loved that Dreyfuss lived, as I vividly recall the loud cheers every time he popped up each time I went back to see this film again! Jeez - I can't remember the last time I saw a movie worthy of such reaction by today's audiences, most of whom are so jaded anyway.
