the scenes inside the mothership were ambitious but the technology of the time wasn't up to creating Spielberg's vision. They could try again now that CGI has made such advances. That scene where Dreyfuss looks up and sees all the aliens lined up in the windows high above always looked so blatantly like a model with little figures being moved back and forth by hand.
The first few scenes of the huge circular room weren't bad. But they should've had a few aliens walking around because it looks weird just being empty except for Dreyfuss.
The music score that Williams wrote for the new scenes was pretty nice though.
