Dave:

The following is my statement. No award is worth so much crazyness, not for you or me. The time has come to end all the sparring - verbal and otherwise:

When W.W. Jacobs wrote THE MONKEY'S PAW in 1902 he preceded the story with "be careful what you wish for as you may receive it." To say that Jacob's theme has enveloped my life this past week and a half would be a colossal understatement.

To that end I am asking that Dave Colton accept my personal withdrawal as the Writer of the Year and that the award be given to the second place nominee.

I have been heartbroken this past few days as the personal attacks against my work have been escalating. Many fellow fans have taken an adversary postition to my winning this wonderful award and to them I ask that you also accept this withdrawal and end the barbarous and uncalled for onslaught.

I was honored to have won and sorrowful that this had to be the outcome. However, I am grateful to have been able to contribute what I did contribute to the the ongoing advancement of the field that we all love.

To a verbal few of you it didn't seem like enough and that is unfortunate. I pray that you few don't view this moment as a victory, but more as a call to arms. This would be the time to embrace your own oppurtunity to advance the field through your personal talents. The ultimate goal of the RONDO awards is to make classic horror more mainstream. Let's all do that.

It's time now for me to move forward with my ongoing projects and I humbly thank all of those who have supported my win from the write in process till now.

Most Sincerely,
Sam Borowski
