When the film was new I saw it in a Jerry Lewis Theater, one of a chain Lewis owned. A smell of vomit permeated the place that night, and I assumed someone had thrown up during a prior screening, probably during the "head in the porthole" scene.
I saw the film again in the same theater, a few days later, and the scent lingered, now mixed with Pine Sol.
To this day I can't see or think of the film without smelling it. This doesn't detract from my enjoyment of this great film.
