Sentiments of this type are often expressed when TARGETS is discussed (i.e., it's the movie that should have been Karloff's epitaph).

True, it would have been nice if it had worked out that way... but then it would have been nice if Lon Chaney Sr. really had scribbled "Jr." on his make-up box and handed it off to young Creighton.

Karloff always said he'd never retire, that they'd have to bury him in his greasepaint, etc. True, the Mexican horrors aren't any good, but they showed that Boris was true to his word. He really did want to work right up until the very end.
