However, if you need the Bond theme to make it a Bond score then I suppose nothing else will do.....you will not enjoy many, if any, of the Barry Bond scores because he doesn't repeat it in toto very often.

That might be because, for good, bad, or indifferent, The James Bond Theme is still credited to Monty Norman.

There could be some truth in this, Hal. Barry was cheated out of his due on the Bond theme by letting authorship be assigned to Norman. He more than made it up, though, by becoming the Bond composer of choice along with all the attendant rewards that went along with that -- fame , wealth, dozens of choice film assignments, etc. Norman saw no such career enrichment or subsequent fame (although he has reaped the music royalties).

Anyway, Barry has used the Bond theme here and there over time, but quite frequently he will only use part of it. The Bond vamp and the guitar riff (the most recognizable part) are most commonly heard. Legally, whenever the Bond theme is included on an album, the composer must be listed as Monty Norman. If Barry used enough of the theme in one of his other compositions then he must share a credit -- and, presumably, music royalties -- with Norman.

So, you may be right, Hal, and Barry uses the theme sparingly in order not to further entangle himself with (or monetarily benefit) Norman. As I mention in another post, GOLDFINGER doesn't use the entire Bond theme at all, only the vamp and guitar riff and I don't see Norman's name anywhere on the album.
