My first DVD recorder was a lowely Cyberhome, but their top of the line model that went for around $375. Got it around 4 years ago & never had any problems with it whatsoever...it player anything thqat was put into it & disc speed wasn't even an issue when I recorded, as it recorded in any speed (up to 16X). When it finally bit the dust I went thru 6-7 different machines trying to get one I liked. I finally settled on one of the Sonys (can't remember the model number). It does a nice job, although I have had to take it in twice for repairs in the 2 years I've had it.

Anyway, it says that any DVD+R you use to record onto must be 4x or lower, and DVD-R's must be 8x or lower. I usually would buy either 4x or 8x discs & had no problems. Awhile back my store was out of DVD-R's (which is what I prefer to record onto) that were 4x or 8x so I hestitantly bought the only other DVD-R's available there, which said "up to 16x"). The store guy said that means pretty much what it says, "up to 16x", so if my recorder has to have 8x or lower DVD-R's, it will work.

I used them and haven't had any problems recording onto them (except for the occassionally defective disc that seems to be included in nearly every spindle pack of discs I buy...at least one is always a bad disc....you hit RECORD & it goes for about 4-5 numbers on the counter then stops & locks up. I eject, stick a fresh disc in & it goes no problems...weird).
