You know, I still have my very first DVD recorder I bought 4 long years ago or more (1174 years in tech time!), a primitive Philips dvd+r that doesn't even have a hard drive.

It continues to work great, and makes recordings off air as well as any I have subsequently seen. I use rewritable discs and transfer them to my computer where I can edit them and make cheaper -r copies, then I erase the rw and use it again.

To this old unit is hooked my 15+ year old Mitsubishi vhs that I use to transfer my few remaining tapes to disc - this set up, including a macrovision filter/enhancer that cost about 30 bucks also works great.
