Supposedly, eBay was going to take care of shilling problems

Among Ebay's many dirty secrets, one is the fact they like shill bidding. Despite all their "we're shocked and are going to put an end to this" announcements, Ebay makes a good chuck of their money on the the final value fee that is charged to the seller. The higher the final price, the more money Ebay makes. Shill bidding has been going on for hundreds of years since the invention of auctions and still goes on all the time at non-eBay public auctions (in industry lingo it's known as "taking a bid from the chandelier" based on the auctioner pointing somewhere into the room and raising the bid from a non-existent bidder) It's here to stay and no way to stop it. It sucks, but as the poster above said, bid what you're willing to pay and move on....
