#49 was the second FM published with a stapled spine, rather than the distinctive square binding. From 48 on, I noticed the qualility slipping, and it became all that more evident when an "all new" (and I really mean that) Castle of Frankenstein #12 hit the stands in spring 1968. The differences between FM and Castle were startling. I have absolutely no doubt that if Beck could've gotten his publishing sh*t together, he could've surpassed FM easily.
