Warren did go through periodic upheavals; staff changes, financial woes etc., most of which were the reasons that articles, covers, and (in Creepy and Eerie) entire stories, during these periods. The financial aspect of it was the main reason. In order to be able to pay their writers and artists (and these rates fluctuated too, which is why all those big names that populated early issues of Eerie and Creepy soon vanished), they had to buy less new material, necessitating the economic shortcut of running material that was already paid for.

To be honest, as Martin stated, I started buying FM around 1972, and was glad to have whatever was in there. It was all new to me. I still have no problem with a magazine reprinting articles from early, sold out and expensive, back issues. I'd rather have the story/article as a reprint than not at all.
