Maybe Universal is viewing the monsters the way Disney views its classics. They used to release them theatrically every five years considering that they would have an entirely new audience every five years. Maybe re-releasing the dvds is Universal's way of keeping the monsters alive and building a new audience for the films. While some have heralded the death of the classic horror films because of the death rattle of Monster Kid staples like Famous Monsters I will maintain that somewhere out there are a bunch of little boys and girls who are discovering the classic horror films right now on dvd.

Didn't you guys learn anything from the old FM? Uncle 4E said "You can't keep a good monster down!"
