Well, all seems to be fair in the format war.

My advice has remained the same HD DVD is good to go now, the worst thing that will happen is that for $250.00 + 5 free movies you'll be left with a great upconvertor.

Blu-ray is still not 100% up to spec, but the $500 Target players should be (until I hear different), because October is the cut-off date the BDA set for full-player compliance.

If anyones on the fence, wait til spring 08, most of the cards on both sides will have been played, and player-prices (and hopefully software) should be more appealing than now.

The reason Disney (and 20th Century Fox) are BD backers is because of BD+ which is essentially a "root-kit" for copy-protection and is an additional layer of piracy-prevention that HD DVD doesn't have, BD also has regional encoding, HD DVD does not.

My three biggest Blu-ray issues still are,

Regional encoding which prevents buying imports
BD+ Which will eliminate the ability to ever make back-up copies
and finally price.

Both formats can deliver equally excellent video and audio, but Blu-rays real advantage is Sony's deep pockets.
