Your description above, if you'll forgive, is somewhat sentimental it that it lauds the films components without ever turning a critical eye as to weather or not they add up to a good movie.

I try to be somewhat objective, even about the films I personally like but which I don't feel are "cinematically perfect". I'd only rate FRANKENSTEIN 1970 about **1/2 (of four). I wouldn't say it's technically a "good" movie in the critical sense, but that's a trap I try never to fall into for personal fulfillment. In other words, if I enjoy a film, that's enough for me. I don't get bogged down in what rating a movie is "supposed" to get, or not. Now, this doesn't mean I'm just going to overlook any technical flaws and always give any favorite film the full **** either.
Bottom line for me is I have fun with the movie. Am I supposed to not enjoy it because books or 'scholars' tell me I'm not supposed to?
