United Artists is really a "studio" in name only.  UA didn't "make"  movies in the sense of other studios.  They financed movies which they then released.  It was a new model.  Broccoli and Saltzman were independent producers who bought up the rights to the entire Bond series (save Casino Royale).  Studios tended to option single books or a few, seldom an entire series.
