Here's yet more proof that
Derek M. Koch
, this year's winner in category #23, Best Multimedia (Podcast or streaming) for his outstanding podcast,
Monster Kid Radio
, is a truly outstanding and remarkable monster kid:
Derek came to the premiere production of my show,
KARLOFF The Play
in Nov. 2014, and liked it so much he came back to see it again the second weekend! Earlier in the year, he had me on his show in a two part interview. When he was in town to see KARLOFF, he interviewed
Sara Karloff
who had flown up to see my play which she had authorized.
Later on, Derek startled me by posting the suggestion that KARLOFF be nominated for a Rondo. It hadn't occurred to me that the play could possibly be on the ballot! "Best Fan Event" was the only category that seemed like a possibility, even though it wasn't a perfect fit, so that's what Derek suggested here at the forum. Then, I was surprised all over again when
David Colton
put the play on the ballot.
Thank you, Derek, and David!
Rondo winners
Stephen Jacobs
(
2012 Book of the Year
-"
Boris Karloff: More Than a Monster
") and
Rhonda Steerer
(
2013 International Fan of the Year
), along with Derek, did a great job stirring up interest for KARLOFF through their pages on Facebook, and encouraging people to vote for it.
I didn't see how something which most Rondo voters hadn't heard about or seen, could have any chance of winning. So it wasn't a surprise that a very different kind of event, and one widely known and appreciated by fans, the "Evil Dead" cast reunion, got the Rondo. Congrats to the folks at
Horror Hound
who put that together!
But I am once again pleasantly surprised by this whole Rondo adventure - KARLOFF is 1st runner-up in the Best Fan Event slot - ! That is very cool - THANK YOU, everyone who voted for the show.
KARLOFF The Play
has only just begun. The initial showcase production was a smash, and Sara Karloff is extremely supportive of the play. I am determined that eventually there will be productions all across the country, so Boris Karloff fans (isn't that everbody?!) will have the chance to see this live show which Derek Koch says is "
Just great!"
THANK YOU!
