Well, I still - respectfully - disagree.

The Tarzan films were links in the same chain. Yes, contracts expired with individual producers, and were picked up by others; but the Burroughs Estate was in charge overall. (And of course, there have been non-Brocolli Bond productions.) And I don't know this for a fact, but I think it's entirely possible that at their height, the MGM Tarzans had distribution and box office comparable to the Bonds?

I think presentism creeps in to such discussions sometimes: "this thing was the one in our lifetimes, so it must have been the biggest deal."
