Disagree, I'll take Lazenby any day over the Connery of Diamonds are Forever.

One thing to note is that Connery was already an actor by the time Dr. No came around, whereas George received absolutely no direct instruction from the director throughout the shoot.
First, I disagree about Connery in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER.  I know I'm in the minority on that film, but, at the very least, Sean seems to be enjoying himself there as opposed to the Sean of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE where he always looks as if he's about to start cussing and stomp out of the scene.

It's true that Lazenby was a beginner, but that only matters if we conjecture that he continued in the role after OHMSS. As for the performance that we do have, his amateur standing makes no difference.  The question is -- how was he in that performance?  His lack of experience may be an excuse for his acting shortcomings, but it means nothing to judging the effectiveness of the performance.
