I had the same reaction to AMAZING STORIES. The ending of that first episode was jaw-droppingly bad. I continued to tune in for most of the first season, but absolutely nothing stood out for me. That first episode was probably as good as it ever got--except for that ending.

The only really good '80s Twilight Zone program was Richard Matheson's "Button, Button"

Matheson wasn't too enamored of it: He used his Logan Swanson name on his teleplay.

ZONE really was the best of the mid-eighties network anthologies. AMAZING seemed afraid to be dark; ALFRED HITCHCOCK was...unnecessary (except for Tim Burton's remake of "The Jar"); and CBS's comedy anthology (can't recall the name) was unmemorable, except for the episode "Get A Job" with Steven Wright, which I though was wonderful.
