I dunno, infinite1. I haven't suggested that the re-cut replace the original film, though I would like to see something like it available as an extra on an official release. 

The theatrical versions of The Lord of the Rings films are still available, though I personally prefer the extended versions. I own both, so the only one who really benefits is probably New Line Cinema.
