I sort of like SKIN OF EVIL. The talking tar pit was supposedly a throw off of "a race of titans" who evolved to a higher plane, leaving their worst aspects to wallow in anger and rejection.... even by 1987 standards it seemed a very antiquated premise... like some really good, mind provoking "SF" concept from the 40's or 50's.... and that's also why I like it!

I also didn't mind Yar's death... that was maybe my first exposure to a main character on a TV series being killed in off handed manner (I wasn't aware at the time that Spock was to meet a similar fate, dying half way through ST 2, and later Kirk was intially gunned down in the back by Malcome McDowell in the original ending to ST 7.), and of course it is always very effective and shocking and makes the viewer really think "Gee... death sure does suck and is so obritrary."

And of course Yar got to go on and get a big heroic death later on. And the banality of her death in the other universe even becomes a plot point and reason she decides to go off with the Enterprise C. Brilliant! Years ago, I remember reading an interview with someone involved in YESTERDAY'S ENTERPRISE's production, and at one point they actually paused and asked themselves "Maybe we should save this for later on the off chance we ever make a motion picture and need to feature the old cast with the Next Generation (I paraphrase of course). Sigh.
