There's been a great deal of discussion, for a good long time, and in several theads, of the basic theory that there was a discreet Browning Edit (which is also assumed to have been script-accurate), and a discreet Laemmle Jr. (decreed, or overseen) Edit that undid the beauty of Browning's work, and left us with the problematic film that we have.

I don't think that the facts and evidence that we have support that theory; and with Casey, I also question the concept that THE PRESENT FILM ITSELF presents the evidence needed to support the theory.
