You know how sometimes you can watch a movie you've seen many times before, and all of a sudden you realize something that had never occurred to you before?  No?  Well, it happens to me.

So last Thursday I watched DRACULA (3 times) to commemorate the anniversary of its premiere. I had, of course, already seen the movie about thirty zillion times since 1962. We all know that Lugosi came to the movie after playing it a few hundred times onstage. So he's doing lots of stuff that he was awfully familiar with. But here's what had never really registered with me before -- the whole first part of the movie, the "good" part in most people's eyes, was as new to Bela as it was to everybody else. That stuff's not in the play. That was unknown DRACULA territory to Lugosi. Amazing, huh? Interesting, huh?

That had never really occurred to me before....I guess everybody else had already thought about that, huh?

Never mind.
