I'm in complete agreement about Frye's Renfield. And as good as he is, it's a shame that his performance was so nearly spoiled by the final cut of the film. In the shooting script, Renfield's activities in the film are clearly tied to Dracula's manipulations of his character. As the film was edited, however, the motivations for Renfield's acts are obscured, leaving him to wander about the narrative like some deranged Greek chorus. His performance is still effective, but it loses much of its power.
