I'd say that Rhodes' first Lugosi book is the choice if you're going for one only.

A few years ago I would definitely have recommended the Cremer, which was pretty great in its day, but has now been pretty much superseded by Rhodes' work.

I had problems with Lennig's original book.  It was interesting and fun to read, but I remember reading a lot of it with raised, questioning eyebrow.  Haven't read his revised version.
