I like the original, with it comparison/contrast of the two families, but I was (and am) surprised to come to the conclusion that I liked the remake a bit better. Yes, it's grueling (it's from the director of HIGH TENSION) and not for everyone, and I didn't think the set-up was too long at all. I thought the deserted model town used for nuclear testings was genuinely creepy, and I liked how the "good" family had to become like the "bad" family in order to survive. Yes, there were too many of those dark shadows moving across the camera lens and in the background and I thought the last 5 seconds of the film before the credits rolled were unnecessary, but I thought the acting was great and the dynamic and subsequent disintegration of the relationships between the members of the "good" family were realistic and riveting to watch.

If you liked HIGH TENSION and WOLF CREEK (I haven't seen HOSTEL) and the original HILLS, you'll probably like this.
