Capn, there lies the "imperfect" I mentioned above. The soap opera subplot really creaks! It's not that it couldn't have worked in context - it's just very poorly done.

craig, imagine a remake of MONSTER SQUAD today...CGI up the yingyang. The question is whether they'd use precocious wise-cracking kids or sexy "Twilight" teens.

drmedula, yes, VAN HELSING had too much cgi. Of course I disliked the horse wagon jumping the chasm, and similar scenes. I dont think Allen nor I are defending the movie. We're just saying that we enjoyed the plot and some characterizations enough that it satisfied us despite all its flaws. That said, I'm reluctant to watch it a 2nd time because if I hate it, I'll have to redact all my earlier posts.
