One good aspect of CGI is that detailed elements can be shrunken down in the computer------constructing jointed hands on an articulated model creature is extremely delicate work, as there is a limit to the thickness chained links can be manufactured for armature purposes.....fingers often look stubby in animated models. You can use wire of course, but it's not quite the real deal.

It's a lot easier to construct delicate formations like fingers/digits at a fairly large scale, then shrink it into the overall image---I do this in 2-D drawing, and assume it can be done in CGI movie creatures as well.

Dunno if that approach can  be done here as a movie, though....nice work, however arrived at, Bob-Zee.
When I was a little kid I would sit in the back of the class and instead of ole' boring math I would think of oversized, man-sized stop motion figures with intricate construction joints and sockets, filmed on a massive stop motion set that would only multiply the detail exponentially.

Then I would go back to flunking the class.
