I enjoyed "Deep Rising" tremendously. It's one of my favorite modern monster movies, even though the monster itself was less than inspiring. I also really liked the first Mummy movie of his, and mostly liked the second one. It's amazing how an obvious fake bat on wires has never ruined my suspension of disbelief, but a crappy CGI scorpion man ompletely undid it.

I had great faith in "Van Helsing" ...until I saw it. I'm hoping that was just a fluke; and error of judgement that made Sommers feel compelled to try and cram too much in as well as ratchet up the action quotient from the succesful "Mummy" movies he made. Maybe he'll go back to concentrating on the characters instead of the SFX.

I agree that this is another example of an unneccesary remake (is there a necessary remake, that's been made?) but I'm game to see it before I trash it.
