Re: The Walking Dead (1936) (reply)
I don't like THE WALKING DEAD. Karloff's character is an unsympathetic doormat with no b**lls, the leading lady and leading man wait until Karloff is practically fried before they testify on his behalf ( we are supposed to admire them?)...

Re: Freaky Monsters #11  (reply)
I don't believe I did it. I knew I shouldn't do it. But I did. I ordered something from the back pages of FREAKY MONSTERS. And it was a defective ripoff! I knew I shouldn't . . . . but I did.

Re: Is "Jaws" considered to be a "Universal Classic" horror picture?  (reply)
Sharks are boring. I have seen JAWS exactly twice, and that's enough. IMHO, VERY overrated movie.

Re: The Wolf Man Has Replaced Frankenstein as My Favorite Universal Horror Film  (reply)
I nominate Carlos Villarias as Worst male Performance in a Universal Horror Film and Acquanetta in whatever she happens to be in as Worst Female Performance. But this is kinda off-topic so never mind! (I wish people woudn't bring up...

Re: Universal Horrors Blu-Ray Collection (combined discussion) (reply)
Isn't there a buzz around that Universal is probably going to release a bunch of new titles in classic sci fi/horror next year anyway? I don't think my buying the UK set is going to kill that.

Re: The Wolf Man Has Replaced Frankenstein as My Favorite Universal Horror Film  (reply)
My most viewed are DRACULA, FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, THE WOLF MAN, FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN, and ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN. Overall most viewed: DRACULA, by far.

Re: Count Orlock? Where can I see that?  (reply)
I remember the old Kartes Video Communications video I bought of this in 1984. I believe it was a Blackhawk print. They used the Stoker names, and Bremen instead of Wisborg. I had that video for twenty years. I loved the music! In...

I'm still buying the UK set to save money. You don't mind if I pay some bills, do you?

Re: ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (reply)
I didn't say Strange sucked in everything (I love him in COMIN' ROUND THE MOUNTAIN)--just as the Monster (even though he looked amazing inthe makeup). We all know what great actors can do with limited roles. I don't see any evidence...

Re: NO TRAVELER RETURNS: THE LOST YEARS OF BELA LUGOSI  (reply)
What I also like about the book is that it proves that personally, Lugosi was just as big a sweetheart as Karloff.

Re: ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (reply)
Glenn Strange seems to have been a nice guy, but he sucked as the Monster. His conception of the part was "I close my eyes and lumber."

I'm not watching this again until they fix the casting: Lugosi as the Swami and Atwill in the Ralph Morgan role.

Re: BLACK FRIDAY (1940) (reply)
I don't go to a Karloff-Lugosi movie to see Stanley Ridges outshine both of them! Put them in the right roles and send Ridges over to Warners and put him in the current Edward G. Robinson film! Same thing for NIGHT MONSTER. I don't...

Despite his personal foibles, Lou's heart shines through his performances. There is love in this man. The children know.

Re: JAWS (reply)
It's funny how opinions can differ. I've seen JAWS twice (once in 1975) and don't need to ever see it again. Meh.

Re: HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (reply)
I like HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN much better than HOUSE OF DRACULA, but the scene in the latter where Carradine seduces Miliza over the Moonlight Sonata is easily the best scene in both movies.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (Easy on spoilers please)  (reply)
What has always bothered me about RETURNS is when Bruce unmasks in front of Selina--and he doesn't have that black makeup around his eyes! Other than that, its my second favorite Batman film.

Also, those signs Lou holds alternate being in pristine condition or all bent up depending on the shot.

Re: Bud & Lou: Comedy Is No Laughing Matter DVD  (reply)
I saw it's original broadcast. Awful. Like all recreations of classic comedy teams, Korman and Hackett couldn't come close to matching Bud and Lou's rapport and timing.
