Re: Rating Golden Age Fox Horror (reply)
Here is my ranking, including only those which I believe are really horror: 1. "He had strange eyes . . . . . . . he was a strange man." 2. "They were the footprints of a gigantic hound!" 3. "Beware thy bane on the frosty lane." 4....

Re: The Film Detective announces new (DVD) restorations of THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS and HANDS OF A STRANGER; others (reply)
I read somewhere that Standard DVDs still outsell Blus, so a lot of fringe companies don't feel it's cost effective to produce them.

Frees plays a priest in Bogart's last film, THE HARDER THEY FALL. I love his Peter Lorre impersonation on the promo record for THE RAVEN.

Re: Books Vs. Movies: Which Are Better, Which Are Worse? (reply)
FRANKENSTEIN, BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, FRANKENSTEIN THE TRUE STORY -- all better than the book. No adaptation of DRACULA comes close to the book.  1979 Louis Jourdan version is an Honorable Mention.  Keanu and Oldman defile the other one....

Re: THE STRANGE DOOR (1951) (reply)
I love the scene in THE STRANGE DOOR when Laughton's lackey William Cottrell berates him for not taking his revenge far enough. ("Your hatred made you my master!" or a reasonable facsimile) Then Laughton starts the mechanism that will...

Re: Boris Karloff - Mr. Wong detective series (reply)
Karloff as Mr. Wong was just Mr. WRONG!! I would have loved to have seen the superb Keye Luke in all the films in that series.

Re: Invisible Ghost (1941) coming via Kino (reply)
Seeing Bela's facial moles in high def won't make this a better movie.  Since the mere sight of Kessler's wife turns him homicidal, I wonder how many people got murdered when they actually lived together?!!

For the 200th Anniversary of FRANKENSTEIN next year, there will be tremendous new production, and a former member of the CHFB is the auteur/star!! You read it here first!

Re: Lugosi on SUSPENSE (reply)
I had that record too. I thought overall, Lugosi was pretty awful on radio. In this broadcast, it sure sounds like Bela is reading the script for the first time during the actual broadcast. I love how he reads "You are trying to tear...

Re: How Do Pagans View THE WICKER MAN (1973)? (reply)
Considering THE WICKER MAN deals with a group of interbred pagans whose ideas of modern medicine consists of swallowing frogs, whose concepts of nature and farming are roughly contemporaneous with australopithecus, and who...

Re: Fifty Years Ago Today (reply)
It's not one of their best, but MEET JEKYLL & HYDE is funnier than some things: Any comedy made after 1974 (YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is funnier) Any stand up comedian from and including Lennie Bruce forward--I have never seen a stand up...

Re: The Mummy's Hand (1940) (reply)
Of course I think THE EXORCIST would have been better if it had Foran and Ford or Abbott and Costello in it. Or better yet, The Bowery Boys. "THE BOWERY BOYS--EXORCISTS. "AIN'T NO DEMON A MATCH FOR SLIP AND SATCH" GUARANTEED AGAINST...

Re: Best -and- Worst Hammer Films Posters (reply)
My favorite Hammer poster is for THE MUMMY (1959),  followed by ONE MILLION YEARS BC.  Least favorite is probably CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

I wouldn't want to be the reproductive organs of all those intersexual pagans on Summerisle after a few seasons of their pagan hanky-panky!
