Re: GODZILLA (2014) (reply)
Its hard to compare japanese godzilla with the american film for a number of reasons. Culturaly, the japanese films have their own asthetic....realisim is secondary to colorful imaginative imagry. Its like comparing kabuki or noh theater...

cranston was dead on target with his comments. Poor scripting and a lousy lead was hugely damaging to the film

Re: Toho and Hammer Role Reversal (reply)
Agree about Gorgo...an often excellent film whose visuals are often outstanding ( other than the blue screen work and stock footage which was rather poor) but in plot, fx, music, acting...all top marks and arguably better than what TOHO...

Re: Rank the films of Honda and Tsuburaya (reply)
Hard to say...but my critical view as to his 5 BEST directed genre films would be this... 1) Godzilla 2) Matango 3) War of the Gargantuas 4) Rodan 5 The H Man

Re: Just saw the new Godzilla movie (reply)

Re: Just saw the new Godzilla movie (reply)
Doctor Kaiju, you keep falling into the same lazy trap. The idea that all other Godzilla films are poorly or flatly acted and written (false) and somehow why should the 2014 be any different or better. . You were the one who brought up...

Re: Just saw the new Godzilla movie (reply)
So...box office =quality? That's a sad thought. By that measure an Adam Sandler film is a better movie than say ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND. Yikes  As for word of mouth...it was quite mixed, with most people saying it was...

Was so looking forward to the movie...but such a letdown, with cardboard characters, some dreadful performances and Godzilla in a co star role in his own movie. Hope the next one is a vast improvement in story and execution

Re: Leslie Halliwell's "The Dead That Walk" (reply)
Loved Halliwells books. He could be a hard critic, but it came from a great love and knowledge of what films could be. The dead that walk is really good, tho there are a few errors in it, but they can perhaps be excused to to his ill...

Re: Koichi Kawakita (reply)
Very Very sad news. He gave us some of the most remarkable FX in Godzilla history and revitalized the entire genre. TOHOs insane demands meant he worked on 10 major FX projects in only 8 years, and still 90% of his work was from very...
