Jun 27 12 8:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	We lost the Antenna TV Channel a while back and just got MeTV in its place a few days ago. (Cable left the channel blank for over a month.) It's like being a kid back in the Sixties again...VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA, THRILLER, TWILIGHT ZONE, BATMAN, plus DICK VAN DYKE, PETER GUNN, PERRY MASON and (guilty pleasure time) THAT GIRL. (Sorry, it's a Marlo Thomas thing.) And later fare like MAS*H and THE BOB NEWHART SHOW are enjoyable alternatives to most of what currently clutters cable. Hadn't seen THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW in years...not quite as good as I remembered it (but Deborah Walley is a cutie), and I don't think I'd ever seen THE LUCY SHOW when Dick Martin was still a cast member, so those episodes came as a surprise. And it's nice to see a horror host showing vintage monster movies on Saturday nights again!

Jun 27 12 6:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I know not everyone can afford it, but the $15 I pay monthly for a DVR service is worth every penny. I catch all the shows from Me-TV (and occasionally from THIS) and movies (TCM) that I want to see (eventually anyway!). The best stuff is on when I'm at work or sleeping, most of the time, so it's well worth the investment.

This actor has always amazed me, and I have loved everything I have ever seen him in, from Gilligan's Island to Get Smart to Columbo...everything. Though it is not an accepted, politically-correct practice today, he had portrayed various ethnic roles in his career. A Japanese soldier twice in Gilligan's Island (as well as a caucasian mad scientist twice), a Chinese restauranteur in The Monkees, an Italian in both Get Smart and The Monkees' movie "Head," and now, a Mexican in this episode of The Rifleman. Still, you could get away with it in those days, and it's a fun episode (though he plays the part straight -- took me a while to recognize him).

That's right, I forgot about seeing that episode a few months ago. I thought to myself that he was doing the "Japanese soldier" character years before he appeared on GI. Of the characters I have seen Vito perpetrate, only the Chinese restauranteur disguise was caked on beyond belief, but perhaps it was purposeful. In the scene, he is deliberately made up to fool the Monkees, and at the end of the scene he removes the disguise on camera. His other characters seemed on a par above the Artemis Gordon disguises, as well as the caucasians portraying Asians on early episodes of Hawaii Five-O, such as Mark Lenard and Ricardo Montalban.

It looks like Me are now showing first season Car 54, which are more consistent than second season. Al Lewis keeps showing up as different characters in guest shots, so I guess Nat Hiken liked him and made him a regular.

He really cracks me up, just to look at his expressions. I'll tell you what, I really love THE ROGUES. This morning was fantastic. What a revelation as I'd never even heard of this show before. Another reason Me-TV has it going on.

Jul 8 12 1:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I thought I had seen all of The Untouchable episodes by now, but I missed the first and second time (first was years ago) the two episodes with Little Charlie Sebastiano. These episodes have a real Godfather feel. They dropped references to the Mafia in the sequel, but it is pretty obvious the organization Little Charlie answers to is the Mafia with no direct connection to Ness' usual nemesis, the Capone organization headed by Nitti. It may be just a coincidence, but I wonder if Mario Puzo was influenced by these episodes. You have the older mobster with many endearing qualities, but still a ruthless thug at heart but with a code, the upstart upsetting the old order by pushing into drugs, and the assassination plots and the counter assassination plots and Machiavellian scheming, with Ness being more in the background. The show could have used a little more of the Mafia. I like how Little Charlie describes why he prefers being a dope dealer ("I only pay one guy, for the stuff. My pushers I don't pay, I just give them some of it")

Jul 11 12 9:24 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Matt Dillon rode off to the Final Frontier yesterday when Quaker sodbuster Liam Sullivan (STAR TREK's Plato's Stepchildren) met a mustachioed Shat on GUNSMOKE. It originally ran in the Fall of '66, and I'm guessing it was probably the last pre-Captain Kirk role for Shatner. He was in full blown character actor mode throughout. Ben Johnson and Tim Carey were good in it too, real slimy bad guys.

They are going to show the movie version on the weekend. I guess they have access to it because it was a Universal movie and they run those Universal horror movies on Svengoolie. If they have the right to show other Universal movies, I wonder why they don't show some of them in a regular time slot. I am not talking about ditching the vintage TV format, but another regularly scheduled movie on the weekend isn't going to upset the format.

MeTV played "Munster Go Home" a number of months ago, so that Universal access must be true. I wonder if they'll show next week the McHale sequel "McHale's Navy Joins the Air Force"?

I recorded both of these movies off of AMC a number of years ago, but I only watched the first one for the first time the night I found out Borgnine died. I haven't yet watched the second. Thanks.
