The Psycho stabby music had become so overused for jokes on various TV shows and movies it really didn't have that kind of power anymore when I was a kid, at least for me. Speaking of X-Files, the Fluke Man episode with the leech dude scared the bejeezus out of me. I was about 11. And all that alien abduction stuff they would talk about on Unsolved Mysteries and other shows in the 90's, that had me pretty concerned. Nowadays, not so much. The aliens probably want a less damaged specimen.

I know what you mean, but in the right circumstances it still works just fine. I have the shower murder violins as my cellphone ringtone. A few months ago I was standing in a long line at the Post Office when it...errr.."rang". And, for whatever reason, it seemed louder than it ever had. People jumped, physically jumped in the line around me. One lady said, "what the hell was that?!?!" I quickly turned off the noise and apologized to the whole room, explaining what it was. Someone said, "Scary!" and others agreed. Then everyone laughed, and two people asked me where I'd gotten that ringtone.

And, man, did THAT ever scare the bejesus outa me. I ran upstairs just to be around someone and my sister even commented that something must have scared me. I didn`t say anything about it tho.

Carroll's knobby hand grabbing the phone from Mara Corday in TARANTULA. The Gill-Man's webbed hand reaching in through the porthole in THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. The Fouke Monster's hand reaching in to the living room window in THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK. The bandaged hand reaching through the red curtains in THE MUMMY'S SHROUD. The deformed hand squashing the dragonfly in MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS. Kharis reaching through the bars trying to grab Martin Kosleck in THE MUMMY'S CURSE. The killer flaring his clawed gloves in THE BAT. Even the title CREATURE WITH THE BLUE HAND scared me enough to keep me from seeing it until I was an adult. DOCTOR 13

This was back in the middle 70's and I was probably around 10 or 11 when I saw and it's not like today when having these shows on every channel. But, I still remember one of the convicts staring into the camera stating that if he was out of prison, that he would be in your house killing you. That scared the living you know what out of me. Also the mentioned about THEM!, that noise was scary and IMO it's still scary today.

Oct 1 12 6:12 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Dracula vs Frankenstein for reasons already stated by others, probably saw this in 1973 or 4 on channel WLVI channel 56 Boston, on Creature Double Feature in the afternoon. I had never seen such violence in my life. Luckily this film is as good today as when it was made. The Body Snatcher, with Karloff and Lugosi, the ending was just terrifying. Saw it on Creature Feature at night. Black Sabbath, the last segment with Karloff is outstanding and totally scary, a far cry from the Universal films. Saw it on Creature Feature at night.. Count Yorga, Vampire was on late night, I think on the CBS Late Night Movie, and I actually waited till a daylight scene after the first attack, and went to bed, it was too terrifying even for me. Then in 1974 at 12 years old, I saw the last half of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, at a theatre in a double-bill with Return of the Dragon. This film was far and away the scariest thing up to that time. I actually blocked out this experience till seeing it again on video in 1999. Oops, I forgot the whole heading for the thread, "Which movies, generally considered terrible today, scared you when you were a kid?" so I guess just my first pick will do, just want to keep the others for posterity.
