Apr 10 09 4:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Last Drop segment was THE scariest film I saw as a child. Second was The Birds. To say it's not scary now, after viewing 1,000 horror movies in the interim, is a little unfair, perhaps.

Nah, this has been covered before... I think Tom confirmed a Jan or Feb '68 shoot for that, so it was a couple of months before the Mexican things (and a year before he died). He was in hospital in Feb '68... and again in August... and again in November, shortly after his last US trip, and for the final time.

May 7 09 11:49 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just watched the Italian version (on Image dvd) and I have to say,I liked the silly ending. It looks like Boris is having a grand old time. I don't believe Bava would have kept it in if he didn't like it. BUT,ending the movie on the shot of her eyes would be a better ending. In fact,one of Bava's infamous zoom cuts would of been nice. But that's just me. I have a question about DROP OF WATER. What's with all the dolls? I could see if she had them all in a room,on a shelf or something,then you could say she was a collector. But they're laying on the floor,a lot of them! I thought it gave the scene a bit of a creepy edge and maybe that was Bava's point. Everytime I watch this movie I wonder about that.

Apr 13 10 6:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	In regards to Baxter's wacky End Title music: It's inappropriate because it wasn't written to be the End Titles. The first part of the cue is titled "Movie Set" and was written to accompany the original comic tag before AIP cut it. When AIP cut the tag and slid the music to the End Titles, it made no sense at all. AIP should have had Baxter record a new End Title, or used some other piece from thet score.

Be advised that the color is much stronger in the Italian version (technicolor vs. pathecolor in the US version). THE TELEPHONE suffered quite a bit of censorship in being translated into English. Among other things, two lesbian lovers are made over as "sisters."

Jul 19 11 12:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The sisters aren't specifically lesbian in the US edit, they're just "really affectionate" sisters. I remember seeing the film in 1963 at a family suburban theater. The lesbian angle had been whitewashed by the editing, but we kids could sense that something still wasn't quite right with those characters. There were a lot of nervous tittters from the audience.
