It's evidently pretty political, being about a sort of anti-Communist superhero ("Red Menace" as in "menace to the Reds", I guess). Think those early Marvel Comics (again, I guess), where Communist spies are favorite villains. It's one of the two books more than the other that I'm looking for spoilers on, called Red Menace # 2 : "Drowning In Red Ink."

The Red Menace does go after communists. He first fought against them in the 50s and has come out of retirement so to speak in the 70s to continue his fight against them. The main characters in the books are very likable and funny. The Drowning in Red Ink book you mention has him going after a group that has destroyed part of Mt Rushmore among other things. What type of spoilers are you looking for?

May 2 12 11:02 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Aside from The Red Menace going after communists, it isn't that political. The books are more action/adventure. If you were a fan of Jim's Destroyers, you won't be disappointed. James Mullaney also has a second series on Kindle, The Crag Banyon mysteries. The first one, One Horse Open Slay is already out. It might be of interest to people on this forum, as it has fantasy elements and is also funny. Crag is a hard-drinking PI, but his world is also populated by vampires, fairies and in One Horse Open Slay, by Santa and elves. And elf comes to Banyon's office, asking him to investigate odd doings up at the North Pole. Banyon refuses but when the elf turns up dead and he's the main suspect, he heads to the Arctic Circle to clear his name and avenge the elf. The second book, Devil May Care, should be out on Kindle by the end of the month. When a demon comes to call, Banyon, chronically short of cash, gives in to temptation and agrees to go after an escaped soul. But he uncovers a conspiracy that stretches from the gates of hell to this world. Both Banyons will be coming out in paperback also, for those who don't like ebooks.

That's a pretty big spoiler, Grant, since it would give away the ending of the book. Even if you didn't mind, I'm sure if anyone else is looking at this thread, and is thinking of buying, it would kill that impulse deader than a Destroyer villainess There's a femme fatale in One Horse Open Slay (the Banyon) also. Mrs. Claus is a babe in a skin tight red dress and definitely after Banyon. But is she a villain? Or merely the neglected wife of a man who is too dedicated to his job? And is she punished at the end? My lips are sealed.
