I'm wondering about some of the 'specials' that came out during the series run (Saint of Killers mini-series etc.). Any info appreciated. TIA.

Apr 30 12 12:55 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yeah, I've read a lot of Ennis. Preacher is like my favorite book, period. It's got literally everything. It's the best horror-romance-action-supernatural-theological-fantasy-Americana-rise to fame-drama-war-spagheti western story ever. There's so much good stuff... Jessie defeating Jody and Grandma, Space's stories about Vietnam, Cassidy coming to America, the chocolate fist... I could go on and on. And there's so much messed up stuff, like the sex detectives, and Odin Quincannon's meat-woman. I've never read anything like it, it's singular and alone. Steve Dillon is like the Spiderman of comic book artists. You know how Spiderman isn't the fastest, strongest, agile, or intelligent superhero? But he's pretty fast, and pretty strong, etc. and that makes him so well rounded he's badass. Well, Steve Dillon I don't think excells notably on any ONE thing, but he's good to great at everything, and that makes him this composite artist that's incredibly capable. I never look at his art and fail to know what's going on. There's nothing uneeded, it's all very efficient, but distinctive. I know his art when I see it, he has a certain way of drawing people. But, yeah. Preacher. Whoo!

I actually didn't read your whole reply since I'm just starting to read PREACHER and want to avoid spoilage, but I dig your enthusiasm. I went ahead and bought all six volumes of the hardcover version. I'd already collected all of Ennis and Dillon's PUNISHER work in TPB form, likewise THE BOYS (with Darick Robertson's art), but for some reason I just had never got around to reading PREACHER. I agree about Dillon's art style being straight to the point without a lot of the flashy stuff that (IMO) gets a little boring in the work of some of the industry's notables. I appreciate that some elements of Ennis's story-telling is a bit much for some folks, but I really enjoy the dark humor of it and tend to agree with the socio-political POV (for the most part). I'm also not a really big fan of most modern super heroes. I'd read there were plans at one point to adapt this as an HBO series, but I guess it was a little too much for them. I'm looking into picking up all the HITMAN books next, although I appreciate that it probably won't be quite as out there as I've gotten used to with GE's work. Still I have a feeling I'll enjoy it. May 7 12 10:03 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I think every time a studio thinks about picking it up as a movie or TV series, they actually look at the material closely and go "Whoa, hey, we can't do this. This will offend a lot of people." The way religion and religious figures are betrayed would be offensive to a lot of people, as would some other things. I think the character of Jessie is confusing to some. It's really not a book for everyone, I guess, but to some people, it's one of the best things ever. I think the only reason it hasn't drawn more controversy is that comics kind of fly under the media radar most of the time.
