Though pretty tough to remember the first one with 100% certainty, I'd venture that it was this one (1963 according to IMDB, which would be about right age-wise:Some parts were VERY sad and I remember crying through a good part of it. The first horror-related film I saw in a theater was, almost without doubt, MAD MONSTER PARTY. I started watching monster movies on TV in 1967/1968, first on CHILLER THEATRE on WPIX in NYC, and later on WNEW's CREATURE FEATURES.

I was probably five and I can't remember why it made such an impact. Maybe it frightened me. First in-door theatre was Tommy Kirk turing into the Shaggy Dog, my first manimal experience, probably 5 or 6. Definetely frightened me. What can I say? I was a a bit of a wus.

I remember my parents taking me to one of the local theaters in the late 50s. I thought it was rather strange everyone sitting in front of a wall with giant curtains hanging (yes, this was the Good Old Days when raising the curtains was part of the show.) I finally asked my mom what this was all about. She said it was like watching television only this was on a big screen which intrigued me no end. The movie might have been RODAN.
