Your observations are fun; keep posting them. Even though it's classified as science fiction the science is sorely lacking. I think of this as a fantasy film.

This to make the Hermann score that much more of a deep register, almost to the point the audiances teeth would shake in their mouths. Oh, how I wish I could have seen the film presented in that way! "[The audiance] will populate the darkness with more horrors than all the horror writers in Hollywood could think of. One night at FXRH's we were testing his sub-woofer and I got him to test JOURNEY. It literally rattled the pictures on the wall. This was much more pronounced bass response than any of the more contemporary films we tested. Very impressive.

Most magnetic tracks and later the Dolby tracks were had either frequency limiting built in or the playback had some form of limiters. At the American Cinematheque in Hollywood they had an original IB Tech print from England with the original magnetic stripe sound. The musical "sting" (the Herriman use of horns for the Tah-Dah—Tah-Dah_Tah-Taaaah) when the sun appears at dawn (and will by its rays indicate which crater leads to the center of the earth) was so sharp and piercing that everyone jumped a bit. Nov 12 10 4:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Besides the outstanding sets, what I love most about this is, of course, the Herrmann score, but in particular the cue for the discovery of the city at the end. Played on organ, it has a respectful, hushed power that reminds me of being in a cavernous church. It made an impression on me the first time I heard it and it's always been part of my inner soundtrack library.

I thought I remembered it having not only CONVINCING "slurpasaurs" for a change, but a NON-VIOLENT scene or scenes with the lizards playing them. I couldn't have been more wrong. I still defend the rest of the movie, but those scenes are a bit much to put up with.

And, to be fair, the movie does depict them taking the opportunity to bathe ( although, I'm not sure how they knew they would be able to ). I'm sure they must have taken some food supplies with them, too... but, they must have severely rationed those supplies. Then, the less said about discharging human waste, the better. I love this film, too. It's one of the greatest adventure films I remember from my youth! Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to see it in the theater. But, I can at least watch it on dvd on my big screen tv... that's pretty close to replicating the experience. - GJS
