Hi ho,
Couldn't find an existing thread about this film.
Last weekend, I attended a traveling roadshow of The Devil's Carnival:

A lot was made of the fact that it was from the creators of Repo-The Genetic Opera, a film I'd heard of but never had seen. Footage from Repo played before the showing, and a lot of Repo fans were at the event. It was enough to ignite my curiosity. I've since seen the film and done a little research.
A lot of people compare it to Rocky Horror, this is mostly due to the cult following it's amassed in a relatively short amount of time. In several cities, it is run Rocky-style with a "shadowcast" acting the film out, audience participation, etc. Some of the character aesthetics are also Rocky-like. But, being a rock-OPERA, where nearly all the dialogue is sung, it's real musical antecedent is Tommy and it's visual one is Blade Runner. On top of that, it is more violent and gory than any of the films just mentioned.
It pulls off the nearly impossible task of making Paris Hilton watchable, but she is pretty much playing herself. Even more surprising than this (and something I'm guessing that is completely lost on the majority of this film's fanbase) is the behind-the-scenes involvement of Japanese rock icon Yoshiki. I really wish I'd seen this before Bousman and Zdunich came through town last week, because I would have asked about this.
