Which I can not seem to find anywhere. Is it a remake of this movie or another adaption of the story? Hellbilly Hollywood - write-ups, reviews, and random info on horror, sleaze, and grindhouse. Jun 17 12 9:30 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have to admit, this has somehow slipped under my nose, and I never even heard of it (how did that happen?). The Dunwich Horror is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories, second only to The Whisperer in Darkness and maybe At the Mountains of Madness or the Shadow Over Innsmouth. This sound like it's worth a watch though. Some old H.P. with a dose of attempted hippy psychedelia sounds like a fine repast one evening.

I subjected my wife to it a few weeks back and this latest viewing really took the film down a few notches in my opinion. But it's definitely worth seeing at least once. If by some HP you mean they use names from the original story you will not be disappointed. It's a fun movie, but has very little to do with the Lovecraft story.

Jun 24 12 12:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like this movie lot. I saw when I was 9 I think and totally worshipped Wheatley, he had the looks, the style, the class, he got the girl. The theme music stuck in my head until now. There are certainly a bunch of unitentional howlers -my fave is the overdubbing when the townspeople decide to storm the house, I can't place it, I think the cadence on the dialogue is hilarious. The brother's eye view towards the end i still find chilling. Kegi Mah!

A bit more Aleister Crowley in Dean Stockwell's performance of Wilbur than anything HPL. The sequence where the girl opens the door and is attacked by the brother with the rapid editing and color tints is pretty effective to me. The brief monster reveal at the end is not so effective as an eldritch horror, but would have made a great kaiju in a Toho production!

Yeah the color tinting of the monster attacks is one of the things that makes the movie for me. I also love the weird glass objects in the living room. All that stuff sets a great vibe that gets hampered whenever the rituals start, it's great but after watching her oan for 20 minutes it gets boring no mater how many half naked body double shots they throw in.

Aug 16 12 4:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is scheduled to be screened here in Cambridge (Mass., USA) at the Brattle Theatre this Saturday evening (as part of a Lovecraft Birthday weekend) and I am hoping to attend. I wanted to see it in the theatre during the original release--can't recall whether my Mom said No or if it was simply inconvenient. It was "rated M for Mature audiences" I think? I hope they have a decent print of it to run. Those psychedelic colors in the Big Sur sequences (if it was Big Sur) and some other scenes in the movie would look great seen as intended... And I'm sure the score will sound eldritch and sublime... H.
