I've not seen "The Gray Man", but based on what I know, I don't think I want to. Brutal case and worse than The Ripper. These "docudramas" really scare the hell out of me. Sometimes I wonder why we're so fascinated with these psychos ... in my case, I just like the beJesus scared out of me. Discuss. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

I've seen "The Lodger" '25, it does have its moments too. I wonder if anyone here is in law enforcement? One of the things that's always gets me at these trials is how evidence is used. It seems there's invariably a mistake in which certain evidence is tossed and later it turns out that some of these unused tidbits could actually move a case ... I dunno ... it's kinda tough to parse through mountains of information while a person is juggling a bunch of cases and has to determine what's important and what's not ... I'm sure it's a tremendous load of regret suffered by detectives when one is certain that a particular person of interest can't be stopped due to lack of physical evidence ... maaan, that would haunt me to distraction. As they say, "hindsight is 20/20". "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

Apr 20 12 8:41 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	True, Si! Wanna see that, too. Must search library archives ... BTW, this is the very first book I read on the subject, anywhere. It's terrific. Written by ex-Scotland Yard detective Donald Rumbelow, it's an excellent source for every Ripper-related. Packed with crime scene and coroner photos, it was, for the time, the definitive book on the case. Rumbelow makes a strong argument for the Ripper murders to be the first modern sex crimes, despite the fact the killer didn't appear to violate his victims. The book kept me riveting well into the night, and the postscript chapter REALLY scared me. Again, I'd like to turn the thread into a discussion of how media can be used to help catch these hopeless bastards. Just yesterday, I saw a report on CNN that a cold case from '79, the disappearance of Etan Patz, was revived and that a search was ongoing at a Manhattan address looking for the boy's remains. He was among the first missing children, if not the first, to be featured on a milk carton. I'd think that in this day and age, where the iNet is used by creeps to get kids, it can be used to catch 'em, too. What the heck was that show where pedos were set up and caught on TV camera? Gawd ... I couldn't watch that, echhh. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

Dunno how truthful the moniker, but this is another well-done creep fest. It's indie, so don't mind the lack of material visually; it's the story, darnit! Dunno if I'd heard of this nut before, but he's in a class all by himself, save for the regime that gave us The Tower of London. Holmes ( an alias ) went out of his way to build himself his own butcher shop in which he lured unsuspecting tourists of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Victims had little place to run if they suspected their true fates; Holmes had the entire floor booby trapped with stairs and doorways that led nowhere. The basement was replete with torture equipment and body disposal rooms. He even constructed a chute from the higher floors where bodies could be dispensed to the basement for further "treatment". Some rooms had gas pumped into them so Holmes could kill or incapacitate his guinea pigs outright. Yikes. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"

Now, on similar matters, it seems that folks can't get enough of unsolved cases, hence my interest in combing the internet for "latest developments". Zodiac, still unsolved, but most seem to peg the crimes on Allen. Now, The Ripper is another matter. A new year, a new suspect from the ether. I guess "Ripperology" is an extreme sport, and now some seem to point to a "Dr D", aka "Dr T", or "Dr" Francis Tumblety as the Ripper. "Lord I love Spring! May 3 12 2:29 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	THE HONEYMOON KILLERS has been remade twice. Or, perhaps more accurately, the story has been filmed two more times. First as DEEP CRIMSON, an international co-production of some sort, then as LONELY HEARTS with John Travolta as the detective and Jared Leto and Salma Hayek as the killers. Takes some mighty imagination to see the va-va-voom Hayek in that role. James Gandolfini and Scott Caan are also in the cast. Saturday8pm, I'd recommend INFAMOUS equally with CAPOTE. It's pretty much the same story, but from a different angle, and with different emphases. Both are very good movies with wonderful performances by Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Toby Jones equally brilliant as Truman Capote, and Catherine Keener and Sandra Bullock both just great as Harper Lee. I think both are terrific films. edit: By the way, THE HONEYMOON KILLERS has some notoriety not only as the only film of director Leonard Kastle, but also as -- probably -- the only film from which Martin Scorsese was fired. Stars Donald Pleasence as Crippen, Coral Browne as his harpy/murder victim wife, and Samantha Eggar as his sympathetic girlfriend. The film definitely sides with Crippen and proposes his murder was an accident. COMPULSION (1959) Based on the famous Leopold and Loeb case, star Orson Welles defends Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman on charges of murdering a little boy just for ducks. SWOON (1992) was another film about the case. It is chock full of head-scratching surreal bits like characters in the 1920's setting using touch tone phones. 10 Rillington Place - John Christie A wonderful, underrated chiller, and a very disturbing little film. Richard Attenborough's Creepy Christie out-Lecters Anthony Hopkins by a mile, and a young Jon Hurt shines as his dull-witted fall guy.
