Apr 3 12 11:58 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I seem to recall a very disturbing Cracker Jack TV commercial that aired in the late 1960s-early 1970s, it essentially was the package of CJ placed on the stoop of a suggested haunted house. That wasn't so much the spooky bit but the audio track laid over the spot in general, right near the end was a baby crying and that really did creep me out. Being a child of The Cold War, I can remember every Friday at 11 AM the civil defense sirens would be tested, as a young child I made the association this could be a bad thing after seeing the original 1960 film, The Time Machine. That blaring of the sirens to call the Eloi underground to 'safety' was a bit much for my very impressionable mind-imagination to then hear such in real life. One would think as an adult almost 40 years later that 'uneasiness' that sound brings would pass but the 2006 film, Silent Hill had that siren return and it was a bit unsettling to discover the siren's wail still can discomfort me.

TV theme songs... there is one its from an old eery French TV series called " Belphegor - phantom of the Louvre Museum ".. at end of each episode that eery tune was played.. The creepy sounds the giant ants made..and on top of that.. the scream the first police officer made when he was killed ... that scream haunted me for years...

But the movie was about a scientist who did invent something to cure people.. this something turned into some kind of big slug like crawling thing, with tentacles... One scene is still in my mind... a guy was grabbed by one of the things and he felt on top of it... then it looked like he was sucked into it .... Somebody knows which movie I talk about ?

A scientist tries to create a cure for cancer, and these turtle like creatures with a long tentacle-like neck result. They pretty much take over the island, sucking the bone marrow out of their victims, until Dr. Cushing finds a way to kill them. The film was available on VHS in the mid-ninties under the Universal classic sci-fi collection banner, but hasn't seen a DVD release.

Had I been a few years younger when I first heard that music it certainly would have ranked right up there with the other two creep-inducers I mentioned. Actually, in the right mood, "The Twilight Zone" theme could be pretty unsettling . . .

Apr 16 12 11:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Here's one right out of real life, my wife had a part-time delivering pizzas and the dispatching store was in an industrial 'cul-de-sac', one evening after dark while returning to said location she told me she had a moment that about literally froze her in fear. Seems one of the adjacent buildings had a large exterior-mounted exhaust fan that when such would spin up into operation gave a dead-on likeness of the sound of the giant ants warbling cries. This I had to hear this for myself, so after a drive up and a brief wait for the fan to come on, I confess it was exactly as she described and enough to cause the small child we all have residing within to have a good shiver.

(the movie blew, it took great material and softened it miserably). the pilot for ghost story scared me in the 70s but i was also watching it in a communal lounge at a large and very old dormitory/hotel-type place, all of us there were unnerved by it. the movie seizure scared me but i cannot remember ANY of it.

Apr 27 12 11:19 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I was a monster kid in the early 90's, when pre Joe Bob Monstervision was on TNT sometimes. I was too young by a couple years to stay up and watch them all, but I would tape them, and wake up the next morning and watch the ones I couldn't stay awake for. But I recall the mutant snails in The Monster That Challenged the World creeped me out a bit. Especially the underwater sequences, the idea of those things underwater is still kinda creepy, we had a lot of weird swmpy areas here in Arkansas, so my mind could get imaginative. Now as an adult I think they look somewhat sinister, but not as creepy as then. There was a good scare scene when one of the monsters grabs a guy by a dam or something, too. And although it can't be put in the realm of schlock, I have to say Shatner unveiling the gremlin's face in the Twilight Zone did a number on me, as a few others said. Oh, and now that I think about it, I remember when Howard the Duck came out and I was really little and the monster at the end terrified me. How's that for schlock?
