Mar 2 12 2:25 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Non-genre, and silly only in context-- I was just watching JUDITH, and there's a scene in which Sophia Loren, wearing a tight blouse and outrageously short shorts, walks into a cafeteria and sits down. Everyone is looking at her and one guy leans over to another and says, "She's all right. Nothing. Just another girl." After what we just saw on screen, this now seems to me the single silliest thing I've ever heard, movie or otherwise.

One can only surmise that the Cygnus' crew consisted of tapeworms, amoebas, or bacteria. Mar 11 12 7:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The whole section of GODZILLA'S COUNTERATTACK/RAIDS AGAIN, in which Dr. Yamane and others identify Anguruis and the new G is just totally goofy. How could a creature extinct millions of years (Anguirus/Ankylosaurus) give rise to legends about its being the "killer of the living"? Especially seeing how Ankylosaurs were plant-eaters. (Actually, modern plant-eaters like buffalo and hippos are very surly, but why pick on poor Anguirus?) Yet the dialogue in the English version gets even goofier, with its kindergarten-level added fx and the dubbed-in lines insisting that the earth was once inhabited by fire-monsters, "fire" being an intimate part of their being! Well, that'd explain why they all died off during the earth's cooler phases . . .

Mar 13 12 7:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't know about "silly," but there's a line in Jurassic Park that bothered me. I wish I could think of the words, because my complaint doesn't work too well WITHOUT them, but maybe someone else will recognize it. Anyway, Laura Dern is about to do something kind of brave, and Richard Attenborough wants to do it in her place, and he can't help letting her know that it's partly because he's the man and he feels a duty to do it in place of her. The thing is, even though he's very tactful about it, she more or less calls him a sexist. I know "empowered woman" characters in these stories are something to expect, but the scene should at least have actually made him SOUND very sexist before having her CALL him that (I seem to remember his line as sounding more "gallant" than anything). Or am I exaggerating about her reaction to it? (I haven't seen it in a long while.)
