While the Van Cleave music is I am sure not unique, as a young boy watching a monster flick, very much something new. Did not Castle and maybe others incorporate similar music? The movie was top grade B material, and is a great dvd.

Mar 27 12 11:09 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Last week, I joined ClassicFlix and put this movie on the top of my queue and was tickled to see this thread had been revived when I got home later the same day. Any way, yesterday the DVD came and of course I was not disappointed in the job Olive Films did. I was surprised in a few places how explosively loud the soundtrack gets. Like when Jeremy first zaps someone with his eyes and storms out of the lab. I didn't recall anything like that in my taped off TV viewings- I guess I'll have to pull out the old DVD-R and compare. I'm just wondering if the dynamic range had been expanded in the course of making the DVD (I'm thinking maybe somebody thought if they made the loud parts louder it would stand up better to modern movies that regularly use explosive sound to jolt the audience) , or if the sound had gotten compressed on old TV broadcasts, or I just imagined the difference. It's too bad that this movie didn't get the "A" treatment because when it is good, it is REALLY GOOD! In some ways this film is even more disturbing and frightening than FRANKENSTEIN! But, when the movie is bad, it is dismal. This is one of those films that I would almost like to see remade - if it could be done in all seriousness with a strong cast, convincing special effects and a believeable script. It has a great message concerning intelligence versus humanity that Otto Kruger's character had to learn the hard way. Unfortunately, he doesn't convince me that he's broken up by it at the film's climax ( All of these people are dead and ultimately it's my fault. Gee, too bad... let's all go home! ) But, as I said earlier, when this film is good, it is really good! It is genuinely creepy and makes your skin crawl! I don't know that a modern re-telling could do it any better but, I'd like to see someone try. COLOSSUS is one of those grand stories that has, unfortunately, been overlooked and minimized - it deserves better recognition ( even despite it's flaws ). - GJS

May 11 12 3:02 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This is right after the Colossus breaks through the glass near the end of the film - there is a woman lying on the floor on the right Then in the next scene the woman is standing and is zapped and.... The she falls and lands in a similar, but slightly different position she was in the first capture above - more of her body is on the black square to the left. Another difference is if you look at the top frame - look at the man standing on black square three squares to her left ; in the third frame, he's moved back one square and is now on white square. The square he was standing in the first frame is now occupied by a man with darker clothing with a long tie that I don't see in the top frame. On the other hand, look at the man with a hat in the black square directly in front of her- he's in all three frames on the same square. I call this "The Hollywood Squares." May 11 12 8:17 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The UN scenes in Colossus always put me in mind of a TV drama version of North By Northwest's UN scenes, in that they were trying to be grandiose but had fewer dollars. Also, as I saw NxNW first, Colossus seemed "backwards" as the Colossus enters from left to right, but Cary Grant enters right to left. Just the thoughts of a kid, watching movies.

Now, we can look and see what is different if we want between both of them, but it might be easier if they were stacked. This is a tad small.
