However, Corman did manage to produce a "what if" film speculating on Dillinger (Martin Sheen) being called back into action by Capone (F. Murray Abraham) in 1940.

Murray Abraham had to be the most insipid Capone casting since Eric Roberts or Ray Sharkey. Now if "Cicero" gets off the ground, we'll have James Gandolfini - maybe a bit too old for the role, but I think it could work.

May 26 12 4:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Supposedly, Corman's original plan for THE ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE was to have Orson Welles as Capone and Robards was to play Bugs Moran. I'm actually glad that Fox nixed that plan. Bob Hoskins was to play Capone in THE UNTOUCHABLES after De Niro refused the part. But the latter had a change of heart and Hoskins got a paycheck anyway. Hoskins probably more closely resembles Capone than any actor that I've seen in the role although Louis Giambalvo came pretty close in THE GANGSTER CHRONICLES.
