The VINCENTENNIAL continues this week in St. Louis with appearances by
Victoria Price and more screenings. We were there over the weekend and
had an absolutely splendid time. We saw a digital screening of THE
TINGLER with Emergo (yes Emergo, not Percepto--but a fun thing
nonetheless and a very enthusiastic audience) and 35mm showings of TOMB
OF LIGEIA and MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH! And gee, did I mention that
Roger Corman was in attendance at the latter two shows and did lengthy
Q&A sessions with Tim Lucas on stage before each film? Roger also
received a special Lifetime Achievement Award at MASQUE. Tim led Mr.
Corman through a retrospective of his work with Vincent Price and his
career in general, asking insightful questions that were always
appreciative and respectful, but never fannish. Roger was enthusiastic
during the interview and seemed genuinely pleased to be there. Aside
from the screenings, we spent quite a bit of quality time with CHFB'ers
Tim Lucas, Maxthedrunkenseveredhead and Ms. Laveau, Ray Castille, and John
"JohnMGM" Clymer enjoying the local cuisine and shops of St. Louis over
several days and nights. We got to check out an exhibit of Price
Memorabilia provided by familiar names like Robert "CushingsView"
Taylor and Cortlandt Hull. And an exhibit of illustrations of Vincent,
including one by our own Belle Dee.
I just want to publicly thank Tom "Tomsmonstertoys" Stockman for organizing this amazing event. Tom does a little thing called 8mm Madness where he shows programs of 8mm digest films once a month at a club in St. Louis. A while back, he noticed that Vincent Price's 100th Birthday was coming up and thought he might do an evening of Price 8mms and call it "Vincentennial". Others liked the idea and suggested making it a little bigger and ultimately it snowballed into this major, month-long cinema event with fans coming from as far away as England to be a part of it. Thanks for this great experience, Tom.
There is still time to get in on the fun. Check out www.cinemastlouis.org/vincentennial for the continuing schedule.
