Certainly he would have come off as a heel, where perhaps King was trying to make an interesting left turn in the story, it came off to me as a lessening of the character. But the girl was cute in the movie.

Far more coherent and intelligent than any Hollywoodian "happy end". So funny you mention that, Todmichael. My brother and I took his young daughter to see HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN on the big screen a few years ago. At the end of the film, she sat there staring at the screen and said "Everybody died. I'm so depressed." It caught me totally by surprise and I couldn't stop thinking, if only he would of waited a few minutes more, or maybe if they would have driven in the opposite direction. I don't think I would of been happy with the ending if just before he shots everyone the army shows up saving the day.

The story is good, the characters were decently defined and interesting, and there were some great scenes. The ending just wasn't set up well or put together well in the sense that it paid off the preceding 90 minutes or however long it was. I see what he was trying to go for but I don't think it really worked. Hard to say what exactly but that's storytelling for you. Robert T.

Then they hear distant roars and sounds through the mist, when then pulls back revealing a spectacular wide shot of the surrounding area below them, and an amazing battle between the huge beasts and the military. The heroes are in the middle of a battle for the world's future, with hope and destruction facing off like Horsemen of the Apocalypse to decide Earth's future and fate. To me, that's an homage to Classic Science fiction. But that's just me. Know others have differing opinions and respect them.

Oct 25 11 9:20 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Best that sort of thing was edited out early on.There is a similar scene in CREEPSHOW 2 on the raft where a main character tries to put the moves on a young lady...after two of his friends have been demolished by that oil slick like blob and he's been stranded there overnight with no escape in sight. It's still one of the dumbest bits of character behavior in a horror film (and its got a lot of competition) and kills the sequence dead in it's tracks when you almost say out loud to yourself "Nobody would do that!". THE MIST,with a much less goofy tone,would have been really thrown off the rails by a random sex scene mingled in with the bleakness.

I'm sure in some cases he can explain them away as being crucial to the story (the kids in IT), but yeah... I mean, a head giving head? Uh-uh!!! Depends on the young teens. Multiple characters are eaten by giant creatures in the fog. Smaller bug things graphical kill some more characters. The movie ends with the father shooting his sleeping young son. I've seen worse, but the movie is pretty downbeat.

(Thanks, Paul Frees!) But luckily, the gods of the boxoffice found a way to keep THAT franchise going... We both laughed because it seemed to be so out of tune with the rest of the movie, implying all that these brave, intrepid characters did was truly stupid and unnecessary. We just didn't feel that these people, after all they had been through, would have made the decision to off themselves so quickly without waiting a few more hours or days. They apparently had some food from the grocery and were safe in the car from at least the smaller creatures, if not the bigger ones. So why kill themselves as soon as the car ran out of gas? The ending seemed to turn everything on its head and imply that the crazy morons back on the grocery were the smart ones. However, the fact that so many of us are spending time discussing the ending shows how effective it was.

Incidentally, it's exactly the same thing in Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Duane Jones is considered as the hero - but at the end, you finally understand that he took all the BAD decisions.
